What Direction to Choose?

August 11, 2012

Wow, I feel like I have been writing a lot about being “down” and picking yourself back up. Not sure whats going on here, but I am going to run with it because it seems to be flowing pretty freely and when that happens sometimes I get what I need to say off my chest without even knowing. Today was one of those days where I had a lot of energy to get out and had the perfect mode to get it out with… you guessed it CROSSFIT! The week was pretty crazy and I was all for a little time with some girlfriends at the bar for a drink on my way home from work. I don’t typically do that, but it was Josh’s birthday and I wanted to have one for him! So I did. Felt nice to be out with some friends talking and having a good time. I knew we had a lot going on Saturday, nothing too stressful but I was glad to have just two beers than head home to watch a little TV and get a good nights sleep! I really needed it.

Today was one of those days that I looked forward to the WOD knowing that the movements in it were right in my wheelhouse. Sometimes you just need one of these WODs to give you a little boost out of the “I feel stuck” realm. I saw the WOD on Thursday and right away was excited for Saturday. I never choose Saturdays workout, whether I am going to WOD or skill based off of what the WOD is, but today I was especially happy that it was something I was excited about! I used it as an opportunity to channel my energy and push as hard as I could through the whole WOD.

I always feel pretty amazing after I finish a WOD, still after a year of CrossFit, no matter what the WOD is, I complete them and think of how excited I am that I was able to do what I just did. Its amazing. I crossed the threshold months ago with the whole “how am I going to do this” mind set which I am very happy for, now going at every WOD with fight and determination that I am going to do it no matter what it is, how hard it is and how bad it makes me sweat! Its always a challenge. I whether its a WOD that I am comfortable with the movements on (like today), or one which I struggle more with the movements (like a pullup or running WOD), I go at them all just the same. Work as hard as I can, push as hard as I can and don’t let up until the clock beeps or the rounds are done. If that’s what I do, I will never be disappointed in how I performed or the time it takes to reach my goals.

Somedays, like today, I have a little more push and drive because I am aggravated or annoyed. I use that as steam to just put behind the work. Other days I just use my inner drive to keep going, always wanting today to be better than yesterday, always craving that feeling of accomplishment and success just simply by completing the WOD regardless of the time or weight. When I started this whole endeavor I really just wanted to loose some weight, get in shape and feel better about my body. I have reached that goal and in the mean time set oodles of more goals for myself. The road will never end, there is always more. I just need to keep adding fuel to the fire!
