Remember Balki Bartokomous, the cousin from Mypos in the sitcom Perfect Strangers? What did he always say? "Cousin, dont be ridiculous!"
Well, last night... followed by my workout this morning I really had to take some of his advice because...
Yeah... there are times when you just have to take a breath, take a minute, gain composure and think about what is happening, what you are saying and how your actions might affect others. We all do it. We act on impulse than realize that what we have said or what we have done cant be undone. Its also unfair to think that if you set a certain expectation of yourself or of others that it will be the end of the world if whatever it is, whatever your expecting dosent happen right away, or as you have planned.
I have a tendency to do both, I am really working on taking that advice and stepping back to realize that even if "its" not happening exactly as I had planned, or exactly as I had hoped... that as long as "something" is happening... its ok! Lets face it, life dosent go as planned. I have talked at length about the time it takes for things to happen, that goes for things both in AND out of the gym.
So, this morning when I was faced with a very difficult WOD (for me) I had to be prepared for the ass whoopin. Lots of CrossFitters love their body weight days. Pullups, pushups... all those body weight exercises, are really my heel in the gym. However, they the things that I have to work on the most, so this was a "great" WOD for me this close to The Opens. When faced with challenge, one must accept the challenge if they want to get better... right?!
I think I said it before in a post; its really funny when the burpees are the easy part of the workout! This one was killer. It was only 5 rounds, but those pullups really kill me. I started out with the blue band and I was trying to kip a pullup with the band, but I just couldnt get the motion. I muscled through 10 of them and than K switched the bands to the green one while I was in "burpee heaven." When I got to the 4th round I couldnt believe that I still had one more round left! My hands felt swollen and my heart was racing. I knew that I needed this though. There was an end in sight...
When the WOD was over, I was pretty down on myself. I was disappointed that I still cant get that pullup. I tired to hang some more and practice the kip. K showed me some more exercises to help strengthen my lats while hanging, so I am working that. I had to take a step back, look at the accomplishments that I have made... how far I have come (from that first workout when I couldnt even do a pullup with the biggest band), and realize I am being ridiculous. I am a crossfitter... I am an athlete.
